These are the paintings I was referring to in the New York Times article when I said “I can do ones like that in about an hour.” These are exercises in pure painting, and a relief between working on portraits where a likeness is required.
Unlike the sable brushes which I use for many (but not all) of my portraits, the bristles I use for the nudes look like they were eaten by weasels.
